Stepwells, also known as baori, are found all around India with some dating back to 400 AD. It's no coincidence these wells are all located close to the Cenotaph and Vimana structures (Link to Cenotaph video below). So it's plausible that the water wells were used to power these structures.

Stepwells are magnificent architectural structures that tapped into underground water tables, providing a year-round water supply. THOUSANDS of these engineering masterpieces are dotted around the country, many containing ornate and intricate carvings depicting Hindu scenes. They are built below ground level, some extending over a mile below the surface.


These stepwells were also used to collect water for many for practical and ritualistic purposes. And some are curiously shaped like an inverted pyramid.
