Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we have the Saris SuperClamp EX two-bike platform rack. We'll take a look at how it fits our 2019 Hyundai Kona. Right off the bat, the hitch receiver on your Hyundai Kona, that will check what size it is because we have an inch and a quarter hitch receiver, so we need to make sure we have a bike rack that can fit that. The Saris SuperClamp is gonna be a great option for those inch and a quarters because this still has a 60 pound weight capacity per bike. But you also have a bunch of extra features like integrated cable locks, a dual wheel mount system, plus extra straps.
So whether you have a carbon fiber frame bike or even a bike with fenders, you can carry them with this rack. So focusing on the Kona, let's talk about one feature which is it tilts away. There's gonna be a large lever at the end of the rack. I'm gonna pull that lever, and let this drop down to a tilt, and we will see how much hatch access we have. So look at the size of our hatch and look at how far it is away from our bike.
So we can now get in here, grab whatever we need, switch out our shoes if we want to, and put things away all without having to take our bike off. Now to bring it back into position, you lift up on the rack and it snaps into place. So how or what types of bikes are you carrying around This has its 60 pound weight capacity for those heavy electric bikes. We also have this unique dual wheel mount system. This utilizes clamps in order to secure multiple bikes.
Now, once you do have multiple bikes so you do have to be mindful of that since both clamps pivots on a single mast you have to figure out which angle works best for both bikes, and that's why you also have straps holding down your bike for extra security. So to disengage the strap, there's a lever here. This is easier access from the back. You press the lever, lift up on the strap, and I actually like to fold the strap away so it doesn't get caught up in our spokes. So that's going to be one strap and then we'll get to the second strap.
Notice the length of the strap. That's to accommodate different tire sizes. The maximum tire width you can actually carry with this is gonna be up to 4.5 inches. Once the straps are out, we're then going to first press the lever on the wheel mount, let's do this rear wheel first, and then we're gonna press this lever on the mast. So two levers per wheel. So one, let's see. We got one and two, and now we can grab our bike and go. Let's talk about those different grooves on the wheel. Depending on what works best for your bikes, you can move those wheel cradles back and forth for those different wheel bases. The maximum wheel base you can carry with this rack is gonna be up to 48 inches, and that will help you too with how that mast works. I'm gonna pull this all the way down so it can be in its most compact position. As a bike rack this is already very compact. And when you are carrying around this rack, how much space is it gonna add to the back of our vehicle Measuring from our bumper to the end of the bike rack, this sits at 27 inches. So since you already have a smaller vehicle, you also don't have to worry about having a large bike rack if you have a small garage or you need to park into those tight spots. Another measurement's gonna be ground clearance. End of the rack to the ground, it's going to be 17 inches. So this is a measurement for those steep inclines like those drivers and hills, but also this will give you a good idea of how high you have to lift your bike up to get onto the rack. What you can also do is you can fold this bike rack away. So that lever we pulled earlier, we're gonna pull it and fold it up against the vehicle. Let's take some measurements real quick. Measuring from our bumper to the end of the rack, that's 20 inches, and that can be where your lever is. Something to be mindful of is, can you still open up your hatch even with a bike rack folded up You can see here, plenty of space, which is a really good feature because then if you needed to put away your groceries or you needed to set up your car in preparation for your trip, you don't have to worry about this bike rack being in the way.
