THE MAP OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST SKI AREA : LES 3 VALLÉES IN THE FRENCH ALPS :600 kilometres connecting 334 doorstep skiing runs
16% green runs ,41% blue runs ,32% red runs ,11% black runs.
It’s no coincidence that Les 3 Vallées is THE n°1 destination for connoisseurs: in the world’s largest ski area, a 600-kilometre network of doorstep skiing runs delights skiers of all abilities.
That comes to a total of almost half easy runs and half expert runs. One or two legendary runs will be an unmissable part of the itineraries you’ll design for yourself on the world’s largest ski area: Roc de Fer, Jérusalem, Mauduit, Lac du Lou, M, Jean-Blanc…
The runs are located between altitudes of 1,100 metres and 3,230 metres (inter-valley connections are also located on mountain ridges above 2,000 metres, for optimum snow cover and ease of passage).
85% of the ski area is above 1,800 meters, making it one of the highest ski areas in the world.
And 25 summits are accessible via the ski lifts, including 10 above 2,500 metres!
161 ski lifts: travel in comfort and travel in first class
Les 3 Vallées has always been a ski lift pioneer. Some, such as Val Thorens’ FUNITEL, were even invented in the world’s largest ski area. Today, that technology is exported throughout the world.
The higher performance the ski lift, the shorter the wait (you barely ever queue in Les 3 Vallées) and the more skiing there is to enjoy!
Among the 161 ski lifts the ski area offers, some are simply unmissable and an essential part of any trip to Les 3 Vallées:
That’s the case with the Saulire cable car in Courchevel.
With the Caron cable car in Val Thorens.
And La Masse gondola lift in Les Menuires.
And Saulire Express gondola lift in Méribel.
And Mont Vallon gondola lift in Méribel-Mottaret.
Les Menuires offers five districts for you to explore: La Croisette, Preyerand, Les Fontanettes, Grand Reberty and Les Bruyères.
From La Croisette, the heart of the resort with an altitude of 1,850m, it is only a short step to the four other districts! Wherever you decide to stay, you can easily get around the resort thanks to the free buses, public lifts and walking paths.
If you want to go big, it’s easy to reach the neighbouring resorts of the largest ski area in the world without even taking off your skis, thanks to the high altitude 3 Valleys links. Head to Mont de la Chambre, which rises to 2,800m, to take in the immensity of this open-air playground!
Méribel Les Allues, altitude of 1,100m: Immerse yourself in the Alpine
atmosphere of the main village of the Allues valley in Savoie. Here is where it all began, and today you can still enjoy its traditional communal bread oven, old barns and tranquillity. Time here stands still, as this charming village cast its spell...
Méribel Village, altitude of 1,400m: This lively little hamlet is grouped around a sunny central square with shops, bars and restaurants. You can easily reach the ski slopes, via the Golf chairlift, and Méribel Centre on the free buses which run throughout the day and evening.
Méribel Centre, altitude of 1,450m: Rise a little higher and you arrive in the heart of the ski resort! In Méribel Centre, the mountains bustle with restaurants, bars, shops and swimming pool. Here, you are at the centre of things and everything is within walking or skiing distance.
Méribel Les Hauts, altitude of 1,600m: A hundred metres further up, and you can overlook Méribel Centre and enjoy unique views over the ski resort. Here, you are amongst the fir trees where you can enjoy the many delights of the mountains, including skiing, snowshoeing and hiking.
Méribel Mottaret, altitude of 1,750 m: Are you keen to get your skis on and explore Les 3 Vallées? This location is ideal for skiing, the atmosphere is welcoming and snow is guaranteed all winter long. The valley’s iconic peak, le Mont Vallon, is invitingly close at hand...
Nestled in the heart of the Maurienne Valley and bordering the Tarentaise Valley, Orelle is the secret gateway to Val Thorens and Les 3 Vallées. Its exceptional location gives ski lovers access to the largest ski area in the world in just few minutes thanks to the new Orelle and Orelle-Caron gondola lifts.
It is especially appreciated by our Italian clientele as it allows them to reach the snow in less than 2 hours from Turin. For all that, this pretty Savoyard ski resort, which counts just 5 inhabitants per square kilometre, has lost none of its charm and authenticity.
In these ten typical hamlets, scattered on the mountainside between 880m and 1,200m, time stands still... Here, all your senses come alive. Take the time to stroll through the narrow streets of the villages, admiring the pretty traditional houses with their slate roofs and flowerboxes, and stopping to chat with the locals you meet on your way.
