Students sit in a circle, right hand on top and left hand on bottom (like Down By the Banks).

Song: Freddy oka whickety whack (do do do so, la la la so,)
Esco tico clickety clack (do do do so, la la la so,)
Esco tico oh no! (ti, ti, ti, re do so,)

Student whose hand is hit on "no" picks a number between 5 and 15. (Less than 5 and they can try to count to get a specific person out, and more than 15 and you will spend more time counting than singing.)

Whoever gets hit on the number chosen is out. However, the person who was supposed to get out can pull their hand away to keep from getting out, and making the person to their right out instead. If someone takes their hand away at the wrong time, they are out. (If two people do it, I only make the first person get out.)

If someone tries to take their hand away but gets hit on the edge of their hand, I usually say that they are not out, but use your judgment.

For the final two people, they hold hands like they are shaking hands and go back and forth. The person who's arm is in on the word "no" chooses the number; the person whose arm is out on the number chosen is the winner.

Other things to remember:
Keep the beat (don't speed up or slow down like in Down By the Banks)

The teacher is the ref--no arguing with the ref!

Hitting someone's hand too hard also gets you out.

You can also get out for not keeping the beat (if someone is too fast or too slow--mostly if they are not paying attention and very late or if they are trying to speed up to get someone out).

Getting out because you did not hear the number is not an excuse.

When doing it the first time, it helps to practice going around the circle without the song so they get used to the hand motion. I also usually do a practice round where no one gets out.

I usually play this with 4th-6th grade and have never had a class that didn't love it.
