Caesars Entertainment Inc. has reportedly coughed up a large amount of money to the hackers who breached their security and threatened to expose confidential information.

This follows in the wake of another cyberattack on MGM Resorts International.

Caesars Entertainment has not given an official statement, however, Bloomberg News was the first outlet to report a cyberattack on the company, confirmed in a regulatory filing.

The news had little effect on the company's stock, and shares stayed virtually the same.

It has been reported that the attack was perpetrated by Scattered Spider or UNC 3944.

Caesars has become known for their use of social engineering to infiltrate corporate networks. First, an external IT vendor was compromised, leading to the breach of Caesars' network.

Research has found that Caesars was seemingly targeted as early as August 27. Notably, this hacking group consists of young people - some being 19 and from the US and UK.

The attackers managed to snatch sensitive data belonging to members of Caesars' loyalty program, such as driver's licenses and social security numbers, which the company confirmed in a regulatory filing.

Typically, these groups request cryptocurrencies as payment for data they have obtained illegally.

Cybercriminals are using ransomware to block access to computer files and they will only provide the decryption key upon receiving payment.

Recently, hackers have targeted data in order to receive payment, warning that the information will be made public if they are not compensated.

Caesars has indicated that they’ve taken steps to try to make sure the stolen information is erased by unapproved individuals, although they cannot guarantee the results.
