George Chuvalo talks about fighting Muhammad Ali

George Chuvalo is one of only two people to have fought Muhammad Ali before and after Ali’s exile from boxing. (Floyd Patterson is the other). Chuvalo twice went the distance with Ali. The first fight took place on March 29, 1966 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Ali successfully defended his heavyweight title and won a unanimous decision. The second fight with Ali was May 1, 1972 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. Ali also won that fight by decision. Chuvalo, a tough, granite-chinned heavyweight from Toronto, Canada, George turned pro in 1956 and retired in 1978.
