ABB ACS880 Speed Control Autotuning

Описание к видео ABB ACS880 Speed Control Autotuning

In this video, Rick Hillmer walks you through the speed control autotuning process on your ABB ACS880 drive.

There are 2 separate PID loops in this ACS880 drive. One is available for process control, say flow, torque, or web tension. The other is internal to the drive and regulates the internal speed controller, similar to the cruise control in your car.

The internal speed controller ensures that your drive and motor perform as needed, following their reference regardless of load changes without oscillation. Just like the external PID loop, this internal loop can be tuned manually, but can also be tuned automatically by the drive.
As default, all ABB drives are tuned pretty “loose”.

While default performance may not be as quick as desired, this prevents oscillations and nuisance tripping common with other drives. The ACS880 gives you 3 levels of autotuning: smooth, normal, and tight.

During this autotune procedure, the drive will provide speed and torque pulses to the motor and process. The drive interprets the behavior of the motor and adjusts the speed controller values as needed. The number of these steps, as well as their magnitude are user adjustable to get even better response.

The demo drive set to give 5- 30% speed and 10% torque steps during the autotune and to give a tight response. You can hear the motor change speed during this test and see the results afterwards.
