COOL SPRINGS ROUTE 66 HISTORY
The rebuilt Cool Springs station is now a gift shop offering Route 66 souvenirs and one of a kind Cool Springs memorabilia. You can also order items from the Cool Springs gift shop through their web site.
Future plans for Cool Springs include rebuilding a replica of the famous cafe as a Route 66 Cool Springs Museum and Interpretation center.
Cool Springs is located about 20 miles west of Kingman, Arizona on the Oatman Road (Old Route 66). This stretch of Route 66 is one of the most unique to be found anywhere. Just before the road climbs into the Black Mountains up Sitgreaves Pass to Oatman, you will see Cool Springs on your right.

CARS MOVIE ON ROUTE 66
Radiator Springs is a fictional Arizona town and the principal setting of the Disney/Pixar franchise Cars. A composite of multiple real-world locations on the historic U.S. Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles, it is most prominently featured in the 2006 film, and is home to a majority of the franchise's characters. Cars Land, a part of Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort, is based on the setting.

ABOUT OATMAN ARIZONA
Oatman is a village in the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona, United States, located at an elevation of 2,710 feet (830 m). It began as a small mining camp when two prospectors struck a $10 million gold find in 1915, though the vicinity had already been settled for a number of years. Oatman's population grew to more than 3,500 in the course of a year.

In 1863, prospector Johnny Moss discovered gold in the Black Mountains and staked several claims, one named the Moss after himself and another after Olive Oatman, whose story was well known. For the next half-century, mining waxed and waned in the remote district until new technology, reduced transportation costs, and new gold discoveries brought prosperity to Oatman in the early 20th century.

HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE OF US ROUTE 66
US Highway 66, popularly known as “Route 66,” is significant as the nation’s first all-weather highway linking Chicago to Los Angeles.
Route 66 reduced the distance between Chicago and Los Angeles by more than 200 miles, which made Route 66 popular among thousands of motorists who drove west in subsequent decades. Like other highways of its day, Route 66 reflects the origin and evolution of road transportation in the United States.
The period of historical significance for Route 66 is 1926 to 1985. The national system of public highways brought geographic cohesion and economic prosperity to the disparate regions of the country.
