Following a prolonged period of not being able to train with and live fire their guns due to COVID-19, the 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (1 REGT), conducted Exercise Barce II to refresh the soldier’s skills and send some bombs down range at the Wide Bay Training Area, Queensland. With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the exercise was conducted while adhering to strict hygiene protocols, including sanitisation of all equipment and social distancing where possible. Of particular note, the J-Bar used to insert bombs into the M777A1 155mm Howitzer Guns was allocated to two members only who wore rubber gloves and sanitised it in between missions.

Lasting a week, all Batteries from 1 REGT rotated through the training area for Exercise Barce II, honing artillery skills for soldiers who had missed out on essential training through the pandemic.
