Little Mermaid Play

On the evening of June 19th the curtains closed on the IC Elementary Drama Clubs final performance of The Little Mermaid. The nerves, smiles, and tears all accompanied a beautiful evening where 74 students from Grades 4/CM1, 5/CM2 and a few little third graders, came together and put on a show out of this world. The performances were great, but what truly made the evening special was the pure joy on all the kids’ faces after realizing what they had accomplished. As our character Scuttle would say, “They were SENSATIONAL!”

Beginning in February, the kids were hard at work putting together this show. Starting with Zoom rehearsals followed by a Drama Camp in March to learn the music and dances. In person rehearsals only began at the end of May.

The kids dove into the world of The Little Mermaid and worked tirelessly for three weeks to bring together this show. They were faced with performing songs that are challenging even to a Broadway performer. They had to memorize a complete script that is usually used for the adult Broadway performances of this show. They not only met the challenge head on but blew everyone away doing it!

Seeing so many find a newfound confidence in themselves was the best part! Seeing them grow and mature into, not only extraordinary actors and actresses, but amazing young ladies and gentlemen was the greatest part. They are the heart of the Drama Family and each and every one of them brought something special and irreplaceable to this show.

A small message from Tony and Carla: “We are so grateful for each and every little actor and actress. We were lucky to have them all in the Drama Family. There aren’t enough words to describe how proud we are of you all! Thank you for being you and for making this year’s show extra special! You will all hold a special place in our heart!”
