Ever heard of Chaitola Mela? It’s one of the most vibrant and lesser-known cultural festivals from the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand, India—and we got to experience it firsthand in Gum Desh, a scenic village near Lohaghat in Champawat district.

This year, Team IIHCA had the incredible opportunity to not just experience the soul-stirring Chaitola Mela of Gum Desh in Lohaghat, Champawat, but also to become a part of something deeper — a mission to empower the youth of Uttarakhand.

While soaking in the rich traditions, vibrant folk culture, and sacred rituals of this Himalayan festival, we connected with the local community and young minds—spreading awareness about the power of skill-based education and how it can transform lives.
