Ron Ranson influenced so many painters with his Fast & Loose methods that he taught for many years. He introduced the Hake brush to beginners as the perfect brush to create impressions, and not get bogged down with too much detail.
He recommended sketching thumbnails to experiment with composition ideas and making tonal sketches to check values, in order to see what works and what doesn't before committing to an expensive piece of watercolour paper.
