Record number of marriages, fewer divorces in Singapore in 2022

2022 was a record year for couples tying the knot, with close to 30,000 marriages registered. This is the highest since data on total marriages registered in Singapore was first compiled in 1961. The previous high was nearly 10 years ago in 2014. For those aged between 15 and 49, there were 47 and 45.5 marriages per 1,000 unmarried men and women respectively. Meanwhile, Singapore saw 7,100 marriages ending in divorce or annulment in 2022. Divorces have fallen almost 10%, with the largest share of divorces happening between couples who had tied the knot for five to nine years.
