The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), a new civic body that will replace the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) after 17 years came into effect on September 2.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, said the new authority has been created to improve governance in the fast-growing city and its outskirts. The GBA expands the city corporation’s jurisdiction from about 800 square kilometres to nearly 1,400 square kilometres, bringing towns, villages and peripheral localities under one umbrella.
