The Great American Laugh-Off | REMASTERED | FULL SPECIAL (1977)

This remastered version of the THE GREAT AMERICAN LAUGH-OFF stars all of your favorites from the cast of THE NEW LAUGH-IN (1977-78) along with other special guests for a performance at the Great American Music Hall. This special is a time capsule of a booming comedy scene in San Francisco in the 70s and highlights performers who went on to become big names in comedy.

It's no surprise the breakout star was Robin Williams, and producer George Schlatter always knew he would be successful. “No one had ever heard of the young comic, Robin Williams," said Schlatter. "We found him performing for tourists on the streets of San Francisco and gave him his first network job on THE NEW LAUGH-IN on NBC. The network loved the talented cast and gave us a ninety-minute, prime time special called THE GREAT AMERICAN LAUGH-OFF. Robin did what Robin does and did a free form comedy set that lasted 15 minutes. We didn’t cut a second of it. Garry Marshall immediately bought out his THE NEW LAUGH-IN contract, cast him in MORK AND MINDY – and the rest as they say…”
