V2G test Kia EV9 at the Elaad Testlab

Описание к видео V2G test Kia EV9 at the Elaad Testlab

For the first time Elaad has carried out extensive tests at the Elaad Testlab in Arnhem with an electric car that is equipped with bidirectional charging technology from the factory. EVs with this Vehicle to Grid technology (V2G) can not only charge themselves, but also supply energy back to, for example, a house or the power grid.

The electric car tested is the Kia EV9, and the special thing is that this test involves AC charging and discharging. The charging stations on the street and at home all work with AC (alternating current), while fast chargers along the highway work with DC (direct current).

In this video, Bob Niesing, Business Development Manager at Kia Netherlands and Baerte de Brey, Chief International Officer of ElaadNL, talk about this special test.

V2G offers many additional options to optimally use self-generated energy through smart charging and discharging, to minimize charging costs and to relieve the burden on the power grid.

This technology is still in development. Extensive tests were therefore carried out in the Elaad Test Lab, during which three bidirectional Kia EV9’s underwent multiple charging and discharging cycles. The experts from ElaadNL carried out the tests together with a team from Kia that had been flown in from South Korea especially for this purpose.

The test work was successful and provided valuable insights. ElaadNL invites manufacturers of bidirectional charging stations and other car manufacturers to also come and test in the Elaad Testlab in Arnhem.
