Wes Watkins Reservoir

This is Wes Watkins Reservoir in McLoud, Oklahoma was open to the public in August 1999. On July 1, 2010 the Shawnee city commissioners approved the 1142 acre lake to be transferred over to the City of McLoud for recreational operations and management.

The reservoir was named in honor of former Oklahoma Congressman Wes Watkins. It was initially known as North Deer Creek Lake.

Its drainage area is 38.5 square miles. According to a report by Camp, Dresser & McKee (CDM), the normal capacity of the reservoir is 13,993 acre feet.

Facilities include 2 recreation areas, one located on the North side and one on the South side. Three boat ramps are available, 1 on the south side and 2 on the north side. Courtesy docks and 6 restrooms with 3 sets of showers for overnight campers and swimmers are also available. (And the bathrooms are heated for the winter.) Three large picnic pavilions and group barbecue grills are available for rent; please call for availability.


There are 62 overnight campsites that include 33 tent sites and 29 RV sites that include water and 30/50 amp electrical hookups; fees apply. All outdoor sites have small outdoor grills and a dump station upon exit. Fishing, Boating, skiing and jet skiing are allowed in designated areas; fees apply. Visitors can enjoy swimming, picnicking, walking, biking, eagle watching and more.

Boating: $5 per watercraft
Tent camping: $10 per night
RV camping : $25 per night
