We went on a mapquest to find lost colonial ruins in New England & found something interesting

Going metal detecting and using a hand drawn folk art map that's a 100 years old we were looking for lost colonial homesites. The old map we are using shows a short cart path coming off the old dirt road and implies there is a cellar hole there. We hike in following the old rock walls and find a dug out stone lined well along the cart path, this is a sign of a homestead. Using the Fisher F19 metal detectors we are picking up iron in the ground from nails that tell us there was a structure here. This would have been a colonial settlers spot back in the 1700s for our part of NH and what a thrill it is to go exploring and find old places lost in the brush. History is all around us and buried in the ground.
