On June 22, 2024, Roswell Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident. The 21-year-old driver of a white pickup truck crashed violently into a mini-van, tearing off the entire right-front wheel of the truck. The force of the crash caused the minivan to crash into another pickup truck parked on the street. The woman driving the truck blamed it on being distracted by a phone call. However, officers suspected she might have been drinking based on the smell of alcohol. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and was ultimately arrested for DUI. She needed to have the New Mexico implied consent law read to her 3 times, even though online court records show this is her 3rd DUI arrest since 2021. She eventually consents to a breath test, but the evidential breath testing device is not functioning at the police station, so she is taken to the hospital for a blood draw. At the end of the video, she is transported to the Chaves County Detention Center. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Careless Driving, and Driving with a Suspended License. Her 2 DUI cases from 2024 are still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
