Info about the "music physics lesson":
The last chord is voiced 1-1-3-5, and in the overtone series, the first three different notes to occur are 1, 3, and 5 (if the 1 is the fundamental). If just the fundamental is played without the other three in this case, those notes will still be there (in their appropriate octaves), so your brain knows what it sounds like to hear them relative to the fundamental. So, when he sings the fundamental, your brain hears the overtones, and when he sings the three on top and they lock in extremely well to the overtones of the fundamental, it sounds like there's almost nothing separating those notes from the overtones. Because of this, in a way it just sounds like one fundamental note with enhanced overtones instead of actually four notes being sung, which of course there are.
