Smith, like so many freedom fighters, worked diligently for years to preserve the history that not only is a homage to the past, but could serve as a foundation for economic revitalization for an area that's been disinvested and disenfranchised like so many Urban core areas. The Vernon Center continues to be a beacon of light and hope, and local stakeholders see it as a potential "jumping off point" for Kansas Citians looking to explore the rich history of Quindaro and the Underground Railroad. Quindaro Legends is Mark Meisenheimer's 3rd film in 5 years centered around the history and people of Quindaro.
