Before you can begin this tutorial though, you must have already unlocked the phone's bootloader.

I also need to point out that rooting your device, just like unlocking the bootloader, does mean that you will erase everything on it. So if you have any important data then you should back that up before completing this tutorial.

Once your bootloader has been unlocked, you will then need to download and extract the firmware that is currently installed on your device.

We're going to take the file that begins with the letters AP, and copy it to our smartphone.

You'll then need to download and install the Magisk application. As of recording this video, you'll need to download an early alpha version of Magisk since it includes patches that allow it to support the filesystem of the Galaxy S23 series.

When this version gets pushed to stable, I'll pin a comment on this video to share that information.

With the app installed, let's go ahead and open up Magisk. Look for the Install button from within the to Magisk card here, and then choose the Select and Patch a File option so you can pick the firmware file that begins with the letters AP.

Tap the Let's Go button and wait for Magisk to extract the image file it needs and then patch them with the required changes. As long as we don't get any error messages we should then be told that the firmware has been patched.

We then to copy this patched file to the PC and let's put it in the same folder as our other firmware files for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Now you're going to need to download and extract the files of a program called Odin before we can launch the Odin exe file.

We also need to boot the Galaxy S23 into Download Mode and don't forget to connect it to the PC with a USB cable.

Let's get Odin ready by loading up these firmware files into the program one at a time.

Let's click the Start button down at the bottom of Odin and now we wait for all of these files to be flashed to the device.

As long as everything went smoothly, you should see a green PASS message in Odin once the process is complete. You'll also know that everything has finished when your Samsung Galaxy S23 has rebooted.

When the phone boots back up, give it a minute or two and then look to see if you have a Magisk app icon sitting in your App Drawer. If you don't, go ahead and sideload the same early version of Magisk that you installed before. And then open it up.

If you see this message saying that Magisk needs to install some additional things, agree and let the device reboot again.

Now when you boot back up again, you'll most definitely see the Magisk application icon in the App Drawer. You can open it up and check the status to make sure it has been installed.

We can even install a root checker app from the Google Play Store to double check that everything is set up correctly and that apps will prompt you when they request root access.

I hope this video helped everyone with a Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or GAlaxy S23 Ultra who want to root their phone with Magisk. I expect the stable version of Magisk to receive the proper patches in the near future and will pin a comment to the top of this video when that has happened.
