The Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) is one of the most iconic landmarks in Zurich, Switzerland, though it is often confused with its more famous counterpart in Lucerne. The Chapel Bridge in Zurich is located in the Old Town (Altstadt), spanning the Limmat River. It is known for its beautiful architecture and historical significance.
The original Chapel Bridge was built in the 13th century (around 1230) and was initially part of the city’s fortifications. It was named after the nearby St. Peter’s Chapel. The bridge was later reconstructed after being severely damaged by fire in 1993, but much of its original charm has been preserved.
