Описание к видео The Government Banned This "Soviet" Engine - Then It Conquered America's Steepest Pass

In 1946, General Electric built the most powerful electric locomotives in the world. They were massive, rugged, and designed to haul heavy freight through the harshest winters on Earth. But there was one problem: They were ordered by Joseph Stalin.

Just as the engines were about to ship, the Cold War froze over. The US State Department banned the "strategic" machines from leaving the country, leaving GE with 20 massive orphans that ran on the wrong voltage and had the wrong wheels.

Destined for the scrap heap, these "Soviet" exiles were saved by a desperate American railroad that re-wired them to conquer the deadliest mountain pass in the Rockies.

This is the incredible true story of the "Little Joes"—the locomotives that were built for the enemy but became heroes of the American West.

In this video: ⚡ The Order: Why the USSR needed American super-trains. ⚡ The Ban: How the Cold War turned engineering masterpieces into scrap. ⚡ The Heist: How the Milwaukee Road bought them for pennies. ⚡ The Conquest: Dominated the Bitterroot Mountains for 25 years.

👇 The Verdict: Did the US government accidentally give American railroads their greatest weapon? Let us know in the comments.
