This song is based on the battle of Thermopylae, well known from the movie 300

The person who commanded the Greek army against the Persian Empire, was Leonidas, King of Sparta. his bravery earned Hellade freedom in the face of the expansion of the Achaemenid dynasty.

The legend about the heroism of Leonidas grew almost immediately after the intense attack. Some days after, when the army of the Great Emperor Xerxes had resumed its march, the remaining Spartans approached the body of King Leonidas to bury his remains and the rest of the dead Spartans right there, where they died in battle.
Simonides of Ceos, one of the most admired poet of its time, wrote an epitaph in honor of King Leonidas and the brave 300 Spartans. He wrote in his memoirs: "King Leonidas told me; Simonides, go to Sparta and tell my people that here we lie, as we obeyed Sparta's law".
According to the ancient Spartans, it was better to die in a war than return defeated.
