In conjunction with a New UCLA Bunche Center report on the state of diversity in Hollywood entertainment, this panel at the 39th NCBS Conference in L.A. featured researchers and industry stakeholders who discussed the obstacles to and opportunities for black participation in film and television.

Panelists:
Wren Brown: Actor/ Producer/Director. Appearances include: Grey’s Anatomy, Waiting to Exhale and Everybody Hates Chris. Producer of Boesman & Lena starring Danny Glover and Angela Bassett.

Tracy ‘Twinkie’ Byrd: Casting Director. Cast shows such as Being Mary Jane; Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, The Gabby Douglas Story; and Fruitvale Station.

Doreen Spicer-Dannelly, Writer/Producer/Director. Developed and Supervisor producer of the Disney Channel’s Animated series, The Proud Family. Writer of the film Jump In! Creator of The Wannabes Starring Savvy.
