How Effective Was The US 76mm Gun on An M4 Sherman Compared to The 75mm?

Описание к видео How Effective Was The US 76mm Gun on An M4 Sherman Compared to The 75mm?

M4 Sherman tanks were produced in greater numbers than any other tank in American history. The Sherman's 75 millimeter gun was housed in a new - fully traversing top turret, which was derived from the lower hull and running gear of the M3 medium tank. In late 1942, the first models saw combat in North Africa.

The original 75 millimeter M3 gun on the Sherman tank, was a decent multi-purpose weapon.

The up-gunning of the Sherman from a 75 millimeter to a 76 millimeter cannon, was a response to the increased armour found on heavier German tanks such as the Tiger and the Panther.

As the guns differed by 1mm only, many people wonder what it was that made the 76mm cannon more viable.
