Despite the police summons, the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) in Meghalaya are adamant to continue with their self-checks against migrant labourers. This is done in order to pressure the state and central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

Several questions have been raised against the NGO for carrying out such checks stating that it's against the law. In an exclusive interview, KSU General Secretary Donald Thabah told EastMojo that since the government is not carrying out the checks hence they are compelled to do it by themselves.

Concerning the restriction of vehicles carried out by a section of NGO, Thabah strongly disagreed and said that the KSU does not harass tourists coming to the state.
