The Ephesians series thumbnail features the temple of Artemis as it exists today, and thus highlights that Paul sent this letter to a real place, the idolatrous city of Ephesus. In Acts chapter 19, Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines for the goddess Artemis, expressed concern that Paul’s preaching had “persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not gods.” Furthermore, he warned, “There is danger … also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis may be counted as nothing, and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship” (vv. 26–27 ESV). Gloriously, the truth of the gospel is now being proclaimed throughout the world, and Artemis has proven to be what Paul had said—only a handmade thing. Praise be to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
