In this video, four adoptive parents reminisce on their own personal journeys with adoption and open up with their very best pieces of advice - both for families who are in the midst of the adoption process and those who are already parenting through adoption. All journeys are different and all of our adoptions might be great, but they don't have to be the same to be great. The adoptive parents in this video stress empathy, allowing emotions to flow, focusing on the positive instead of the negative, cherishing what's happening now instead of anticipating what is coming in the future, being yourself and trusting you are the right fit for a birth family and their child, and letting go and having faith. Planning is a difficult thing to do during the adoption process and one mom in the video says, "We say 'plan' is a four-letter word in our house.'" The adoption process takes placement and a strong support network, but oftentimes friends and family can't completely relate to the adoption journey or understand the truth of what happens in families that grow through adoption. The adoptive parents in this video come from a place of understanding and share the best of the knowledge they've learned so far.
