Maria Alejandra earned her B.S Honors in Geology from the Univesidad Nacional de Colombia at Bogotá. She is currently a 4th-year PhD student at the University of Michigan working with Adam Simon. She investigates the origin of structurally and lithologically controlled iron oxide – copper – gold (IOCG) and iron oxide – apatite (IOA) hydrothermal mineral deposits. She focuses on geochemical characterization of magnetite in order to fingerprint the source of the ore fluid(s) and constrain a genetic model for mineralization that is useful for exploration. Maria Alejandra is also interested in the broader tectonic setting and timing associated with these mineral deposits
