'India needs a new poverty line'-PM Economic Advisory Council Chief Bibek Debroy's speech

Bibek Debroy, PM's Economic Advisory Council Chief emphasized the need to review India's official poverty line. He was speaking at a conference organised by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. He said,'Should we now have a new poverty line to which Consumption Expenditure Survey data can be applied?'. He added,' We still do not have an official poverty line that goes beyond the Tendulkar committee. The Rangarajan Committee report wasn't ever formally accepted & the MDPI is not quite a poverty line. Should we now have a new poverty line, to which HCES data can be applied?'
