Gendhun Choekyi Nyima was just 6 years old when he was recognized by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchen Lama, one of the higest-ranging spiritual leaders in Tibet. Just 3 days after being recognized, Gendhun Choekyi and his family were taken into custody by the Chinese authorities and ever since we haven’t heard anything of them.
