Birch wood is naturally blonde in color, and accepts dye very well. Thin layers are soaked in dye, then laminated into a plywood. This construct makes a great sculpting medium.
All grinders I use for sculpting are used with a "router speed control", or "electronic speed controller" in order to slow their RPM's. I recommend this.
