DIY Flower Pot Air Heater! newly redesigned! now more heat than ever! uses rocks to store and release the heat! Easy DIY. this video shows a re-design or re-thinking of the standard 'candle powered' flower pot air heater. like the original, this one also runs "off-grid" but no candles or any fire source is needed! it uses 'ptc ceramic heating elements' as the heat source and a bunch of rocks (pea gravel) for the thermal mass storage. works amazing! heats up the surrounding area very nicely. heated a small room in an hour. runs 3 ways: a 12v battery, a 12v solar panel or a home/auto 12v power socket. made with only 3 items... a clay flower pot, 6 ptc 220c(428f) 12v heating elements and a bunch of pea gravel (sand or rock gravel should work too). to make it just assemble the parts as shown in the video and connect it to your 12v power source. works great! i easily got the thermal mass of the gravel to over 300F(150c) and the sides of the pot to over 200F(93.33c) *in only 80 minutes (and it was still rising). heated up my entire dining room area within an hour. once it's hot it really cranks out the heat (kinda reminds me of how it feels when you sit next to a small wood stove). in testing, the air temps within a few feet of the unit reached over 90F(32.22c) - so placing a small fan near it would be an option *to disperse the heat and increase the overall space that it can heat. the temperature of the ptc elements themselves average in the mid 300's (F) so output temps of the air heater will continue to rise even more and then stabilize. at full power the elements pull about 2 amps each (or 12 total). note that the unit holds and releases heat for hours even after you turn it off, so if you're powering it with a solar panel you can still get heat well after the sun stops shining. for more information on 'PTC ceramic heating elements' (and how to use them for heating and cooking) i've listed several links below to my other youtube videos on the topic. all are diy heaters and cookers. wondering where to buy the elements? best places seem to be amazon, ebay and aliexpress. so far, i've bought all of mine on amazon. i can't recommend any seller in particular but to find them for sale just search for 12v ptc ceramic heating elements and you'll see lots of choices 🙂
