Al-Baqi cemetery, the oldest and one of the two most important Islamic graveyards was demolished in 1806 and, following reconstruction in the mid-19th century, was destroyed again in 1925 or 1926.
A place where four Imams: Hasan ibn Ali (as), Ali ibn Husayn (as), Muhammad al-Baqir (as), and Jafar al-Sadiq (as) among others are buried, making Baqim an important location for Shia Muslims.

With its rich history and list of personalities why was Baqi Destroyed? 8 Shawal is a day of mourning. Is is a day of Sorrow termed 'Yaum-e Gham' ("Day of Sorrow").
