On Traveling Through History. we review the history of the Biltmore Estate and its owner George Vanderbilt and his family.  We take a look at the history of building of the home in 6 years by over 1,000 workers in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.  We go over George Vanderbilt's background, along with his family, and we discuss the reason he chose this incredible location for the largest private residence in the United States.

Biltmore Estate is a historic house museum and tourist attraction in Asheville, North Carolina, United States.  The main residence, Biltmore House (or Biltmore Mansion), is a Châteauesque-style mansion built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895, and is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 sq ft of floor space and 135,280 sq ft of living area.  Still owned by George Vanderbilt's descendants, it remains one of the most prominent examples of Gilded-Age mansions.
