Illinois State Rep. Emanuel "Chris" Welch | Understanding Our New World

Illinois State Representative Emanuel “Chris” Welch and Institute Director John Shaw discussed the political and social unrest sweeping across Illinois and the United States and considered reforms that are necessary for a fairer and more just state and country.

Welch is the state representative for the 7th District of Illinois since 2013. He is the chairman of the House Executive Committee and is the former chairman of the House Higher Education Committee where he helped draft historic education reforms such as the four-year MAP grant award and the AIM High Scholarship. Welch was also the co-chairman of Governor JB Pritzker’s Educational Success Transition Committee.
