Small SUVs Rear Autobrake Crash Test (Damage Cost)

Описание к видео Small SUVs Rear Autobrake Crash Test (Damage Cost)

Seven out of eight small SUVs tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have demonstrated strong performance in rear crash prevention evaluations, focusing on low-speed backing crashes. The Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Subaru Forester earned the highest rating of "superior." Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, and Volkswagen Taos achieved an "advanced" rating, and the Hyundai Tucson received a "basic" rating. Despite rear automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems not being mandatory, their effectiveness in reducing collision claims and damage costs is evident. Studies show that the combination of rear cameras, parking sensors, and rear AEB significantly decreases police-reported backing crashes by 78%.

While all vehicles equipped with rear AEB outperformed those without, the Ford Escape consistently avoided collisions in all test scenarios. In contrast, the Hyundai Tucson failed to slow or avoid collisions in any scenario. Advanced-rated vehicles like the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, and Volkswagen Taos also struggled with angled targets. Despite these findings, rear AEB is still not as widespread as front AEB, with only 23% of 2023 passenger vehicles having it as a standard feature. Given the current adoption rate, it may take until 2050 for most vehicles in the U.S. to be equipped with rear AEB. The IIHS continues to advocate for the broader implementation of this cost-effective safety technology.
