The War on Malaria - Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute Scientists Lead the Fight

Malaria afflicts 212 million people globally, and more than 2/3 of malaria deaths are children under the age of five.

In 2001, Bloomberg Philanthropies gave $100 million to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in order to fund the establishment of the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute (JHMRI). Since then, JHMRI's state-of-the-art facility has become a hub for a community of multidisciplinary researchers dedicated to the treatment, control and eradication of this deadly disease.

Focused on four major areas of research — entomology, parasitology, epidemiology and immunology — JHMRI boasts experts from around the globe, all working to prevent and cure malaria.
