Описание к видео The War on Malaria - Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute Scientists Lead the Fight

Malaria afflicts 212 million people globally, and more than 2/3 of malaria deaths are children under the age of five.

In 2001, Bloomberg Philanthropies gave $100 million to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in order to fund the establishment of the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute (JHMRI). Since then, JHMRI's state-of-the-art facility has become a hub for a community of multidisciplinary researchers dedicated to the treatment, control and eradication of this deadly disease.

Focused on four major areas of research — entomology, parasitology, epidemiology and immunology — JHMRI boasts experts from around the globe, all working to prevent and cure malaria. In this short film, meet JHMRI director Dr. Peter Agre and members of his team in Baltimore, and learn about the exciting impacts their research is having abroad in locations such as Macha, Zambia.
