I love myself some detective games and whenever a new one comes out, it immediately gets my attention. The Last Case of John Morley is made by a small studio and promises a narrative driven puzzle game with horror elements in a beautiful 1940's style.
The environments and atmosphere are great and the buildings you explore feel lived in and creepy at the same time. In the beginning you actually can interview and ask questions to certain NPC's, but this unfortunately does not get explored further in the game. After the first 10-15 minutes you are all by yourself and get to explore a large mansion and a sanatorium.
The highlight of the game are its puzzles which are very well done and require the player to properly read texts and investigate the environment. Though some puzzles can be a bit of a challenge, I was never stuck for too long and the overal pacing is great. There are some geniune creepy moments in here and the story was also interesting. The final "twist" was a bit cliche though and I did see that coming from a mile away. Despite all that the game's atmosphere and detective setting are fantastic, so I hope that these talented developers will explore that more in their next project in the future.
