The winter of 2024 has begun at it's full throttle. And the picnic season of Bengalies too. There are many places to enjoy this winter through picnic and adda ( আড্ডা ). And one of the best places js Alipur Zoo of Kolkata. Kolkata Alipur Zoo is celebrating it's 150th Birthday in this year 2024. And Zoo authority has made it grand by renovating the entire Zoo. I was very surprised and happy to see this transformation. I also found Reliance foundation animal ambulance within Zoo complex. Happy for animals too.

This place is best for picnic from Christmas to end of January. And now parking facility is also available nearby (but I didn't experienced that service). From borodin means Christmas on 25th December, this place becomes the paradise for picnic lover.

Now coming to the details in this very old India's first Zoo. How to reach Alipur Zoo, what are the options of eating, Zoo entry fee, Zoo timing and many more. Though it was our picnic day at Zoo, however I would cover these details in this description for my viewers.

How to go to Alipur Zoo:-

Direct bus to Alipur zoo from Howrah and sealdah stations are available. However, you can catch any bus going towards Behala via Khidirpur. I won't suggest metro as the nearest metro station is around 2 km away. Now there is an additional new entry gate just opposite Kothari Hospital. Hence, no more walking, if you are coming from Khidirpur side.

Entry fee :-

It is Rs. 50 per head for 5 years and above. And below 5 is Rs. 20 per head. I would suggest to book your ticket through online platform to avoid que at Zoo. This would save a huge time.

Eating options:-

There are many options of foods available but don't expect complete lunch menu, its only snacks. Jhalmuri, Fuchka, ice cream, momo, tea, coffee, packed drinking water (fee drinking water is also available withing zoo), chips, cakes, ghugni, fruits etc are available within and outside zoo.

Entry and exit time:-
The Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday is closed.

Best time to visit:-

If you love crowd, choose any weekend of winter, but if you want to avoid crowd, choose weekdays. And specially 25th December to 2nd January, the most crowded days for Alipur zoo. You would see most of the animals because it would be outside to get sunlight. But if you choose summer, you would hurdle see them. The best season to visit zoo is from October to March.
