Lee Health Massage Therapist Questie Houston sees cancer patients daily, “When they come in they’re overwhelmed, stressed, defeated.”

Her goal is to help promote relaxation. “To help destress, bring them back into alignment with who they are and how they feel, bring them back into their bodies, which they don’t really feel like is theirs anymore,” said Houston.

Massage can help release some of the tension that many are carrying. “Shoulders is where I find the most stress, in their neck, helping to promote circulation within their body,” said Houston. Neuropathy or numbness from nerve damage is common for her patients. “Not getting rid of it, but helping to withstand their day a little bit better.”

She works with both cancer patients and caregivers, “They carry a lot of stress too, because they’re having to go to the doctors’ appointments, and answer phone calls, and drive people around, and then deal with her own stuff, so massage can definitely help them destress as well,” said Houston.

Improving quality of life, one massage at a time. “Some people will even say they sleep better at night, which is a big deal, a lot of people don’t sleep very well because of the chemo and radiation and just stress in general,” said Houston.
