Notes :
In simple words, computer graphics is the creation, manipulation, and representation of visual images using computers.
That includes everything — from the images you see in video games 🎮, animated movies 🎬, to even the simple icons on your smartphone 📱.
It’s basically how computers communicate visually with us humans.
💡 Example:
When you play PUBG or GTA, all the characters, cars, and buildings you see are not real — they’re computer-generated graphics designed using mathematical formulas and geometry.
There are mainly two types of computer graphics:
1️⃣ Raster Graphics:
These are made of tiny pixels — small colored dots.
🖼️ Example: Photos you click on your phone or see on Instagram.
They look great but when you zoom in, they blur.
2️⃣ Vector Graphics:
These are made using mathematical equations — lines, curves, and shapes.
📊 Example: Company logos, icons, or diagrams in PowerPoint.
Even if you zoom in a hundred times, they stay sharp!
💻 1. Entertainment:
Movies like Avatar or Toy Story use 3D computer graphics to create stunning visuals and characters.
🎮 2. Gaming:
From Minecraft to GTA V, computer graphics make games realistic and immersive.
🧑⚕️ 3. Medicine:
Doctors use 3D models to visualize organs, perform simulations, and even in robotic surgeries.
🏗️ 4. Engineering & Architecture:
Architects use AutoCAD or Blender to create realistic 3D designs of buildings before construction.
🚗 5. Automotive & Simulation:
Car companies simulate vehicle performance in 3D before manufacturing — saving cost and time.
🧑🏫 6. Education:
Animations and simulations help students visualize complex concepts easily.
let’s see the advantages of computer graphics:
✅ 1. Better Visualization:
Complex data or ideas can be shown visually — easier to understand.
✅ 2. Realistic Representation:
You can design and preview something before actually creating it — like buildings or cars.
✅ 3. Saves Time & Cost:
Designing digitally avoids physical prototypes — huge savings in industries.
✅ 4. Interactive Learning:
In education and gaming, visuals make learning and engagement more fun.
there are a few disadvantages too:
❌ 1. Expensive Hardware & Software:
Creating high-quality graphics needs powerful computers and costly software like Maya or 3ds Max.
❌ 2. Time-Consuming:
Rendering complex 3D models can take hours or even days.
❌ 3. Requires Skill:
You need artistic and technical knowledge — it’s not just clicking buttons.
Computer Graphics is the bridge between technology and creativity.
It allows us to see data, imagine ideas, and build worlds that don’t even exist.
In the next lecture, we’ll learn about graphic systems and display devices — basically, how your computer actually shows these images on the screen.
