Описание к видео Governor’s Time Limit to Return Bills | Article 200 Explained |BPSC Q141 Polity

Exam: 70th BPSC CCE (Prelims) – Held on 13 December 2024
Question: By which time must the Governor return an ordinary bill to the Legislature?
Answer: (C) No time limit

Explanation:
Under Article 200, the Constitution does not prescribe any fixed time limit for a Governor to return a bill. The phrase used is “as soon as possible.” Hence, for the 2024 BPSC exam, the correct answer remains No time limit.

Update (2025):
In State of Tamil Nadu v. Governor of Tamil Nadu (May 2025), the Supreme Court interpreted that Governors should act within a reasonable time — generally 1 month when acting on advice and 3 months otherwise. However, these are judicial guidelines, not formal constitutional amendments.
