This video explains in brief about what a Smart Grid is, and what is the need for it. It also explains what are the challenges in setting up a smart grid.

The important point of the smart grid are as follows:
1) It consists of distributed power generation. So there are many sources/generating stations to generate power. which increases the reliability of the system as it is not completely dependent upon the centralized power stations.

2) Effective use of renewable energy.

3) Artificial intelligence for quick actions, so as to maintain the stability of the grid as well as keeping the power in service for consumers.

2) Old infrastructure of the grid
3) Cyber Attack
