CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — In an exclusive interview with ABC News 4, Retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Alex Pelbath laid out his guiding principles as he begins his campaign for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. He is running for the House seat representing much of the Lowcountry currently occupied by Nancy Mace, who is running for to replace Governor Henry McMaster.

“We need leaders, not politicians in D.C. first and foremost,” Pelbath said. “I’m not a politician. I've never been a politician. I consider myself a leader with real leadership experience that has mattered on a global scale.”

Pelbath brings a military background and a high-profile mission narrative to his congressional campaign. He said by branding himself as a disciplined outsider aligned with Trump principles, he’s hoping to tap into conservative voters’ desire for strong, non-establishment leadership.
