Vietnam is among 40 countries that have issued new pledges to phase out coal during the COP26 summit. It has promised to stop building new coal power plants by the 2030s. Coal currently provides about 50% of the country's power, but it remains unclear how it will deliver on the pledge when it's struggling to meet growing energy demand. The coal-dominated power sector accounts for nearly two-thirds of then Vietnam's greenhouse emissions.
