Fishing for Shovelnose Sturgeon. A prehistoric fish species is featured in the fourth installment of the series that I'll probably be working on until the day that I die. The Shovelnose Sturgeion - Scientific Name: Scaphirhynchus platorynchus. The goal is to catch 1000 different fish species, and today I am chasing a fish that is the smallest of the sturgeon species, and is a native fish to the Mississippi River watershed. I was fishing in the Wisconsin River for this species wich can be found in the deeper sections that have strong current. They can be caught with worms that are on the bottom in sandy or gravelly areas.
