This is a quick test I did today to try and make a very reduced version of the FLESH system of DEAD ISLAND 2 which is phenomenal. I did not Implement jiggle or soft body physics yet as you can see but constructed some layers of destructible WPO materials that keep on exposing the flesh and muscle layers underneath. I used Eddie Ataberk's Skinned Decal Component for the hole destruction. The persistent blood particles are just placeholder fx for this quick test. I was just more interested in recreating the layer system but still needs more time to polish. But maybe someone might find this inspiring.
